With both teams coming in riding two-game winning streaks as they battle for playoff positioning, the Detroit Red Wings host the Colorado Avalanche at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.  Colorado is beginning to round into form as the Avs currently hold the second seed in the Central division with 74 points, two points behind the division-leading Stars. Colorado has the third-most points in the Western Conference but is just 13-13-4 on the road this season. Detroit, on the other hand, is currently the second Wild Card team in the Eastern Conference with 64 points. The Red Wings have a four-point cushion over the Devils and Islanders in the Wild Card race. This is the first of two matchups between these two teams in the coming weeks.

Most recently, Colorado won its second consecutive game with a 3-1 victory over the Canucks on Tuesday night in Denver. Ryan Johansen scored twice on two deflections to break out of his scoring slump, while Alexandar Georgiev stopped 24 shots in net.

As for Detroit, the Red Wings took down the Kraken in overtime by a final score of 4-3 on Monday night. Ben Chiarot scored 1:06 into overtime while Patrick Kane got his 800th career assist to lift the Wings to a huge win.

The Avalanche visit the Red Wings in a matchup between two playoff hopefuls on Thursday night.
