The Hurricanes continue to be in a strong position to make the playoffs with wins in three of their last four games to improve to 37-19-6 on the season. Carolina’s 80 points are good enough for second place in the Metropolitan, four points behind the Rangers for first place and six points ahead of third-place Philly. The Devils, on the other hand, are trying to stay alive in the wild card race with 66 points on a 21-28-4 pace. New Jersey is six points behind Tampa Bay and Detroit in the standings. Carolina has won the previous two matchups between these teams, including a 1-0 overtime win in mid-February.

Most recently, the Hurricanes cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Canadiens at PNC Arena in Raleigh on Thursday night. Montreal scored the first goal of the game, but Carolina went on to score four unanswered to pull away for the win.
As for New Jersey, the Devils took care of business in a 4-1 victory over the Blues on Thursday night in Newark. Devils star Timo Meier scored a hat trick with three goals in the first two periods, including scoring twice in the first period. Eric Haula then scored an empty-netter to put the game away.
