Bob Tasca III came in as the low points qualifier here in St. Louis, Missouri, but set himself up to take the points lead with his performance on Saturday. He is in second place in points (2,284 points) in Funny Car, closing the lead on Robert Hight (2,299 points). Tasca III is looking to take the lead for the first time this season and surpass Hight in the Funny Car standings with only three events left on the calendar. The top drivers in not only Funny Car, but also Top Fuel, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle will close out the weekend today at the 2023 NHRA Midwest Nationals in the final event of September and technically the first of October.

Tasca III will start today against Jack Wyatt in an attempt to not only climb to the top of the standings but to pick up his second straight win in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.
The leaders in the other classifications entering today are Doug Kalitta (2,284 points) in Top Fuel, Matt Hartford (2,250 points) in Pro Stock and Gaige Herrera (2,304 points) in Pro Stock Motorcycle.
These final events today will set the stage for the leaders heading into Texas NHRAFall Nationals in Ennis, Texas from the Texas Motorplex. There are only three total events left on the schedule for every driver in each of the classifications to make up ground on the leaders, or hold off the field for a season championship win.
