The IndyCar Series is back in St. Petersburg this weekend to open its 2023 season with the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which has been part of the schedule since 2005. Scott McLaughlin won the series opener last year while three-time winner Hélio Castroneves and two-time victor Josef Newgarden are also in the field. The street circuit is 1.8 miles with 14 turns and was the first non-oval for the series. The course uses downtown streets and a runway at Albert Whitted Airport. The race is the first of 17 scheduled on the IndyCar Series this year, with defending champion Will Power seeking his third career title.

Andretti Autosport earned the front row in qualifying, with Romain Grosjean earning his second career pole position and Colton Herta qualifying second.
Pato O'Ward and Marcus Ericsson are on the second row, with Kyle Kirkwood and McLaughlin on row three, 2021 series champ Álex Palou with Felix Rosenqvist on the fourth row and a pair of multiple-time series winners in Scott Dixon and Power rounding out the top 10.
The series will take nearly a month off after St. Petersburg before returning for the PPG 375 at Texas Motor Speedway on April 2.
